Staff Feature: Lorvens Florestal
For today’s blog, we would like to feature our newest staff member of Haiti Awake and Mission Made Jewelry, Lorvens Florestal! Lorvens has been with Haiti Awake since 2014 when he met founder, Becky Graves, as a little boy. Since then he has been a part of the Children’s Home, Kay Timoun, and the Child Community Center in Port-Au-Prince.
He learned how to sew in 2019 at Heartline Ministries, and made his first coaster set in 2020; he has since been sewing for Mission Made Jewelry alongside two other boys. When you shop for any sewn products, such as our wristlets, coasters, and blankets you can expect Lorvens to have been behind it if it was not one of the other two boys.
This past Monday, Lorvens moved out of the Children’s Home into his own place! He will be joining the Haiti Awake staff, mentoring children just as he was mentored. He will also be joining the Mission Made Jewelry staff, sewing products like our new coin purses.
When Lorvens is not sewing or flashing his signature smile, you can find him drawing or playing soccer! Although Lorvens is not very tall, he likes to joke around with people when they mention his height, saying “I was born like that!” His favorite place in Haiti is Kenscoff because of the freshness, breeze, and plants on the mountain, as well as the monument Fort Jacques, which he has visited once. But overall, his favorite part about Haiti is the beach, of course.
We are so excited to have Lorvens on the team full-time and we are very proud of him!
